An educational facility for aspiring construction professionals is opening in Hartlepool and will show people how to perform tasks such as plastering and bricklaying.
Shaun Connell, manager of the unit at Tofts Farm East Industrial Estate, said this will be a "one-stop shop" for training in building skills.
Speaking to the Peterlee Mail, he commented: "The reason for this is there has been a bit of an upturn in the industry and the potential is definitely there for employment."
Mr Connell said the academy would run apprenticeships alongside private courses.
He added that the idea to open the training facility came when he saw a "gap in the market" for people with general construction skills.
This comes after Mark Farrar of Construction Skills Network told the Mirror that building companies should start preparing for the upturn in the sector.
