According to DoItYourself.com, a trowel and a float are often used to leave the concrete with a smooth finish.
However, the website noted that the same items can be used in different ways to leave a variety of patterns.
For instance, it said holding a steel trowel flat against the surface of the slab and moving it around in a swirling motion would create a light, swirled pattern.
Alternatively, builders could use a wood float to create a similar but heavier effect on a concrete slab.
"Do the swirling while the concrete is still fairly wet," DoItYourself.com advised.
Builders could find concrete trowels from manufacturers such as W. Rose meet their needs when providing the finishing touches to a slab.
The company has more than 200 years of experience in creating concrete finishing and bricklaying tools.
