Although the amount of work available for users of brick tools has been decreasing, the end of the declines is in sight, one organisation has claimed.
The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has suggested that there are signs that the fall in business for small building companies - which has continued for ten consecutive quarters - will soon cease and the workloads will level off.
Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the body, said: "We are seeing grounds for some optimism in that workloads and employment are at least beginning to stabilise around their current albeit much reduced levels.”
According to the latest State of Trade Survey released by the organisation, 46 per cent of FMB firms involved with private property, 52 per cent undertaking social repairs and 60 per cent working on social new housing claimed to have seen no change in business.
Although Mr Berry said the recovery is not yet strong, he noted that 60 per cent of respondents did not expect to cut jobs over the next six months.
Elsewhere, thousands of jobs were created for construction workers by Crossrail, which announced that 14,000 positions would be made available between 2013 and 2015 as part of its new Skills and Employment Strategy.
