Users of concrete tools are working hard to make construction projects more environmentally-friendly, one expert has said.

Vernon Pethard, founder of newhomesforsale.co.uk, commented that homebuilders were making efforts to create energy-efficient abodes and work in more sustainable ways.

"Builders are continually researching environmentally-friendly ways of construction," the expert noted.

"[They] aim to use recyclable materials and to preserve the local landscape as much as they can," he added.

His comments follow an announcement by minister Grant Shapps that local authorities and developers may be allowed further flexibility in order for them to meet the government's target to ensure all new houses are zero-carbon from 2016.

This would mean minimum standards for energy-efficiency measures would be put in place, such as the fitting of cavity wall insulation.

Mr Pethard said that construction workers were continually finding new ways of sourcing green materials and were finding better ways of providing appliances and white goods with the best energy ratings as well as fitting eco-friendly heating systems.
