According to Construction Skills Network, about 100,000 extra jobs are likely to be created in the sector over the next four years.
As a result, businesses have been encouraged to plan ahead in order to prepare for the surge in activity.
The government has recently announced a number of projects that could boost the construction industry over the next few years, such as the creation of more affordable homes.
Specialist contractors could also take advantage of planned civil engineering projects, such as a proposed high-speed rail link between Birmingham and London.
"We are encouraging firms to take on apprentices and keep training their workforces," said Mark Farrar, chief executive of Construction Skills Network.
Speaking to the Mirror, he said this would help the industry avoid skills shortages similar to those it has seen in previous years.
