Users of brick tools may see an increase in opportunities to use their products as one expert has said new housing must be built as a "matter of urgency".

Head of communications at the House Builders Federation (HBF) Steve Turner said there was already an estimated shortfall of one million properties and each year the UK did not manage to construct 200,000 or more homes, this deficit would widen.

"We have a huge undersupply of housing at the moment so we have got to find a way of increasing housing delivery as a matter of urgency," he commented.

Policy Exchange recently released a report that proposed decisions on the construction of new abodes fall down to local communities, which will ensure their own requirements are fulfilled.

Mr Turner explained this plan would see financial incentives given to districts, but the HBF is keen to see further details on the scheme.

The specialist stated it was important the programme was "transparent and benefits the entire community".
