Mr Shapps has four or five years working with the industry, director general of the FMB Richard Dimnet explained, which makes him an ideal candidate as he "really has got into the job".
The minister is seen as someone who could be set to for a successful career in the government, Mr Dimnet added, however he knew that some people in the sector who may feel that the industry is still underrepresented.
"We would like to see a dedicated minister who has housing, construction, planning and all the related issues under a single responsibility," he said.
This news follows a report released by the FDB on April 6th, which revealed that 30 per cent of building companies do not expect to last the year and 55 per cent do not expect to take on any new staff over the next six months.
