Dino Patel, London regional manager at the National Housing Federation, stated the proposal was "welcome" and the body's members would be happy to help the authorities deliver the project.
On announcing the plans, the city's mayor Boris Johnson stated people were being invited "to enter into the devolution debate so that together, we can ... deliver more quality affordable housing".
The plans were outlined in the Framework for Devolved Delivery report released on August 12th by the city's authorities.
In a similar vein, housing minister Grant Shapps recently announced local communities would be rewarded for building homes through funding that they were entitled to spend on whatever issue is at the forefront for their region.
