The smooth grey face of a concrete surface finished to a high standard using a professional straightedge could be more on-trend than people might think.

According to Janet Eavenson, owner of Leonard Provence Interiors, there is growing demand for decorations that carry many of the same properties as a straightedge-finished cementitious surface.

For instance, she notes the desire for geometric lines and shapes in accessories, but also in flooring materials like carpets.

However, it is the cool grey colour of concrete that could also help it to be on-trend as a construction material in the months to come.

"Right now, people are using greys in entire rooms - and I've noticed that it has really changed, even in the past year," says Ms Eavenson.

She adds that grey can work not just as a feature colour, but also as a backdrop capable of contrasting well with a variety of other colours.
